Artisti in Piazza – International Performing Arts Festival started-off in 1997 and it can be considered as the outcome of a magic ambiance such as the city of Pennabilli, a medieval town rich in poetry.
After finding its own way within the cultural and performing arts world, it is currently counted among the most important Performing Arts Festivals on both the National and International scene – acknowledged in 2015 as “multidisciplinary Festival” by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage.
Through the vivacity and youthfulness typical of the young, the Festival explored, over the years, arts of any type and provenance, experiencing the farthest cultures and drawing from them new languages. It made internationality its own flagship.
The Festival made its first appearance in 1997, under the title of “La Grande Festa della Fantasia” (The Great Feast of Imagination), caption created by Tonino Guerra – poet and screenwriter who worked with Federico Fellini – great personality to whom the Festival owes a lot.
The main aspiration of AIP is to promote arts and live performances, meant as key elements for the dissemination of culture, individual growth, and social cohesion, as well as strategic development for the territory through a special consideration to the eco-sustainability (GoGreen!) and the cultural and social impact.
Protagonists of the event are theatre, music, contemporary circus, and dance, but most importantly hybrid forms. They blend and compare different disciplines, rather divergent among them, and create compelling combinations, giving life to new languages and poetics.
The program includes, annually, between 50/60 international companies, more than 200 artists, 24 exhibition points, for a total of approximately 350 reruns and a considerable attendance of 40.000 visitors per edition. The Festival is constantly looking for innovation, offering numerous collateral actions: workshops, land-art installations, plastic and figurative art exhibitions, artistic residences, parties and dj-set, arts and crafts – “Mercatino del solito e dell’insolito”, tasteful gastronomy, children area.
It is thanks to the Festival that the street theatre enters the cultural scene, in the same breath of the other different arts.
